Qatar-based RasGas Co., a helium production, storage, loading and sales corporation, recently marked a major milestone with its 5,000th shipment of helium from its Helium-1 facility.

RasGas has played a major role in making Qatar one of the largest producers and exporters of helium in the world.

“Qatar has two key advantages as one of the most prominent helium exporters,” RasGas Chief Marketing and Shipping Officer Khalid Sultan Al Kuwari said. “First, our liquefied natural gas (LNG), and thus helium, is derived from multiple upstream projects, positioning us as a reliable choice in the market and setting us apart from single-source suppliers. Second, our multiple LNG trains and two helium plants make Qatar uniquely flexible in our production capabilities.”

RasGas’ operations are continuing to expand; its Helium 3 plant is currently under construction. The corporation, which began operating in 2001 under the Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil RasGas Inc. umbrella, is a joint stock company.
