The Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP)

on Tuesday

recounted the presentation of a TECHtalk that was given in early February on solar energy.

The discussion,

featuring experts in the renewable energy sector, was fostered by Mohammad Khaleel, executive director of the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), and Omran Al Kuwari, co-founder and CEO of GreenGulf.

“We have a great opportunity to benefit from solar energy in Qatar, and QEERI is committed to supporting Qatar’s solar journey through innovation and creativity,” Khaleel said. “We must work to take advantage of solar energy at this moment, because it doesn’t require massive new infrastructure — just the will and hard work needed to reach what we aspire to.”

GreenGulf was the company behind the installation of Qatar’s first solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Qatar National Convention Center and an increasing number of institutions and firms have joined the solar ecosystem. According to the report, the country’s solar output is approximately four megawatts.

“We are seeing the beginning of a new era of interest in solar energy and we are trying to use this moment to advance the industry and implement clean solutions in Qatar,” Al Kuwari said.

During his talk, he discussed future developments that will likely take place as solar and other forms of renewable energy sources become more popular in Qatar.
