Qatar recently
unveiled the new facilities and physical improvements to its Search
and Follow up Department, with civic leaders on hand to discuss
improvements made for the benefit of individuals housed there.
The department is
where expatriates who have violated residency laws and want to leave
Qatar voluntarily go for processing. It operates under the
jurisdiction of the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of
Border Passports and Expatriates Affairs.
At a ceremony,
Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed Al Atiq, director general of the Department
of Passports, presented the new waiting area and reception hall
designed for women, pointing out its growth and additional features.
Also attending were Brigadier Jabir Abdullah Al Lubada, who
talked about the comfort and safety of detainees at the center, saying the state is dedicated to protecting expatriates’ human
rights. Recent renovations allowed for beds, dining and relaxation
areas and mosques, for example.
The site also has telephones and shopping
facilities for everyday needs, in addition to
fingerprinting and case study areas, a clinic and courtrooms.
The
department is located in Doha’s Al Gharafa district.
