Qatar has been chosen to host the Clean Energy & Sustainability Summit
(GCESS) in November, sponsored by the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), in association with the Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development,
a Qatar-based think
tank dedicated to curbing the rise in energy consumption.
With current research predicting increased rates of energy
consumption in the Gulf states due to anticipated population growth over the
next two decades, the GOIC plans
to coordinate the convention, to be held Nov. 14-15 in Doha, in response to the world’s changing ecological needs.
Qatar, currently the world’s largest exporter of liquefied
natural gas, is experiencing increased awareness of its energy footprint as it
witnesses accelerated growth in the form of infrastructure development, including
aerial and ground transportation improvements, residential projects and
commercial complexes.
“One of the most important challenges that GCC
countries and the entire world face today is providing clean energy for people
and guaranteeing its sustainability in light of climate change and its negative
environmental repercussions,” GOIC Secretary General Abdulaziz Bin
Hamad Al-Ageel said.
Al-Ageel expressed his gratitude to former Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Energy and
Industry Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah for his foundation’s summit sponsorship,
as the summit is expected to pave the way for progress for Qatar and other GCC
states as they participate in the sustainability movement.
“The (GCESS) …
will be a platform to discuss further the energy issues that relate to GHS (global
harmonization system) emissions and climate change,” Al-Attiyah said. “Technical
advantages in clean energy, mitigation of GHS emissions and the energy
efficiency improvement will be demonstrated and presented during this summit to
further improve the cooperation in fighting the climate changes.”
