QatarEnergy has entered into a long-term agreement with JERA to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan. The 27-year Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA), signed on February 3, 2026, stipulates that up to 3 million tons per annum of LNG will be delivered from Qatar to Japan starting in 2028.

The SPA was formalized during the 21st International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG 2026) in Doha. His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Yukio Kani, Global CEO and Chair of JERA Inc., signed the agreement in the presence of senior executives from both organizations.

His Excellency Minister Al-Kaabi stated: “We are delighted to further strengthen our long-standing relationship with JERA, a strategic partner and one of the leading LNG players globally, and to reaffirm our continued commitment to supporting Japan’s long term energy needs.”

He also said: “Our collaboration, which dates back to the early 1990s, is a testament to the enduring ties between our two companies and to our common desire to ensure that safe and reliable LNG supplies continue to support Japan’s economic development.”
