Carrefour was recently named the hypermarket operator at Abu Dhabi’s upcoming Reem Mall, which is expected to open in 2018.

Carrefour will be part of the $1 billion new shopping development on Reem Island that will feature 450 stores, a variety of dining options and many entertainment offerings.

Reem Mall is being developed by the National Real Estate Company in partnership with United Projects for Aviation Services Company.

“As one of the region’s most developed retail markets, Abu Dhabi presents a very attractive investment opportunity, and the Carrefour hypermarket in the upcoming Reem Mall development will further cement our presence in the region,” Miguel Povedano, executive regional director of UAE Carrefour franchisee Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said. “Carrefour hypermarkets offer customers a unique shopping experience with a diverse product selection at competitive prices. We look forward to bringing more choice, and the quality offering that Carrefour is known for, to create great moments for Reem Mall’s customers.”

The announcement that a Carrefour hypermarket will open at Reem Mall represents a significant milestone for the project as it enters into its next development phase and seeks partnerships with top retailers.

“Carrefour is a highly respected global brand and will play an integral role in forming Reem Mall’s unique retail offering,” Reem Mall Chief Operating Officer Shane Eldstrom said. “Reem Mall will provide shoppers and visitors with a world-class retail experience and we are thrilled to announce Carrefour as a key part of our retail strategy.”
