SABIC is set to present its ELCRES HTV150 dielectric film at PCIM Asia 2025, focusing on the material’s performance in high-voltage and high-temperature electrical applications. The company will exhibit in Hall N5, Booth F03, during the event held from September 24 to 26 in Shanghai, China.
The ELCRES HTV150 film is designed for use in capacitors that operate under demanding conditions, such as AC-DC inverters found in electric vehicles. According to SABIC, capacitors made with this film can function at temperatures up to 150°C while experiencing minimal derating of applied voltage.
“Higher voltages are a common theme across electrical applications, from connectors and capacitors to wire and cable,” said Sergi Monros, vice president, SABIC Polymers, Specialties BU. “While high voltages can increase operational efficiency, they present challenges. SABIC continues to lead and innovate in this space. Our specialty materials perform well under exposure to high voltages, high temperatures and harsh conditions, helping customers deliver next-generation electrified components.”
Testing by Nichicon, a Japanese capacitor manufacturer, showed that capacitors using the ELCRES HTV150 film had lower voltage derating compared to those made with traditional biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films. At 130°C, the derating was measured at 4.8 percent and at 150°C it was 14 percent. In contrast, BOPP-based capacitors may see their rated voltage reduced by up to half at temperatures above 125°C.
Adel Bastawros, Ph.D., chief scientist at SABIC, will discuss these test results during two technical presentations at PCIM Asia. His first talk titled “HTV150 Dielectric Film for High Heat DC-Link Capacitors with Minimal Derating of Operating Voltage” is scheduled for Thursday, September 25 from 11:40 a.m. to noon China Standard Time as part of the E-Mobility session. Dr. Bastawros will also speak on “Voltage Derating Behavior of High Temperature Capacitors for DC-Link Applications” on Friday, September 26 at 12:15 p.m., during the Technical Conference.
Beyond dielectric films, SABIC offers other materials such as ULTEM and NORYL resins as well as LNP copolymers and compounds featuring a high comparative tracking index (CTI), which helps protect electrical components exposed to contaminants or harsh environments while operating under high voltage conditions.
PCIM Asia is an annual event dedicated to power electronics and intelligent motion technologies held in Shanghai.
