Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), a national
petroleum and natural gas company based in Dharan, recently announced the launch of a
new project entitled the Saudi Arabian Drilling Academy (SADA).
SADA will act
as a training ground to serve the drilling and workover industry in the region.
A recent study conducted by the Saudi Aramco Drilling and
Workover (D&WO) Admin Area concluded that approximately 90,000 Saudis will
need to be trained in the next 20 years.
The SADA will include a board of trustees chaired by Dawood Al Dawood, acting vice president of Northern Area Oil Operations and
initiator of the SADA concept while at D&WO, and vice-chaired by Nabil Al Dabal, general manager, Training and Development (T&D). There will be 15
board members, including three from Saudi Aramco, one from the Technical and
Vocational Training Corporation and 11 voted in from among the drilling and
workover companies involved.
The SADA is funded by the industry, with 34 stakeholders
contributing to its establishment and continual operations.
