Saudi Aramco has been awarded the 2015

collaboration partner, JGC Catalysts and Chemicals.

The award was given by the
Japan Petroleum Institute (JPI).

JPI honors the best scientists, projects and institutions.
It is recognized globally for the quality of its awards. Saudi Aramco Chief Technology Officer Ahmad Al Khowaiter accepted the company’s award while on
a visit to Japan for the Saudi Aramco and Japan Cooperation Center Petroleum (JCCP)
joint symposium in Tokyo, titled “Unlocking the Potential of Fuel to Enable
Energy Savings and Emissions Reductions.”

“I am extremely pleased with the work we’ve done on CAN-15,
creating a catalyst that’s the first of its kind,” Al Khowaiter said. “I look
forward to the many commercialization opportunities this technology will avail.”

The technology that won Saudi Aramco and JGC Catalysts the
award is called “Hydrocracking Catalysts for Heavy Oil Mixed with Deasphalted
Oil.” The two companies developed it jointly, with the support of JCCP. The
collaboration for the catalysts system started in 2007.
