Saudi
Aramco recently took another step into the future of technology by breaking
ground on a new research center at King Abdullah University of Science and
Technology (KAUST).

“Saudi Aramco and KAUST
are leaders in technology development domestically and internationally,”
Khalid Al Fallon, Saudi Aramco chairman and KAUST board vice chairman, said.
“Their unique roles in developing innovative and original research are
essential to the future success of the energy industry in Saudi Arabia.”

The
37,000-square facility is expected to be completed by mid-2019. Saudi Aramco is
counting on it to accelerate its technological strategy, which involves
expanding its research capabilities. The center will house more than 130
scientists and researchers and support a range of research areas, including
solar energy, environmental protection, reservoir engineering, and computational
modeling.

“At KAUST, we are committed to advancing science, innovation and
technology through distinctive and collaborative research, which relies upon
the nurturing of ideas and talent,” KAUST President Jean-Lou Chameau said.
“Partnering with Saudi Aramco on this new center is the latest of a series
of shared successes to foster the transition to an innovation-driven economy
sustained by intellectual capital and scientific discovery.”
