The Saudi Center for Commercial
Arbitration (SCCA) recently hosted two training programs in conjunction with the American Arbitration Association – International Centre for Dispute
Resolution (AAA-ICDR).

Mustafa Abdulghafar, head of Dispute Resolution Department; Mohammed Abdulraouf, arbitrator, lawyer and former secretary general of the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration; and Richard Naimark, senior vice president of AAA-ICDR, taught the “Advanced Approaches in Managing Arbitration Cases” program.

The other program, dubbed “Mediating in Commercial Disputes,” was taught by James MacPherson, special council of SCCA and international mediator; and Mark Appel, arbitrator, mediator and senior vice president of AAA-ICDR. Abdulraouf, Naimark and Abdulghafar also helped guide the second program.

Lawyers in the arbitration field as well as members of the
international arbitration community attended the programs. The programs were available in both Arabic
and English, and were considered a first-of-their-kind for Saudi Arabia. Both
programs took place at SCCA headquarters in
Riyadh.
