His Excellency the Saudi Minister of Finance and Governor of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB), Mr. Mohammed Aljadaan, led Saudi Arabia’s delegation at the IsDB Group’s Annual Meetings in Algiers from May 19 to 22, 2025. The meetings focused on “Diversifying Economies, Enriching Lives,” emphasizing economic transformation and improved living standards in member countries.

Minister Aljadaan participated in the general session of the IsDB Group’s Board of Governors, where he discussed a strategic framework for 2026–2035. He described it as a crucial roadmap for future institutional performance. “We all recognize that the success of this ambitious vision is closely tied to the establishment of clear and practical mechanisms for measuring development impact, and the adoption of an integrated system of indicators to assess that impact—ensuring transparency, enhancing accountability, and enabling continuous and effective monitoring of implementation plans,” said Minister Aljadaan.

At the Governors Roundtable Meeting themed “Bridging the Gap: Multilateralism, Changing Trade Dynamics, and the Future of Development Finance,” Minister Aljadaan highlighted IsDB Group’s role in promoting economic growth and regional integration among member states. He stressed maximizing synergy among IsDB-affiliated institutions.

He emphasized current circumstances necessitate supporting economic recovery through structural reforms aimed at fiscal sustainability and economic stability over medium- and long-term periods. Strengthening confidence in multilateral institutions by enhancing their effectiveness was also underscored.

Minister Aljadaan also joined a High-Level Roundtable on operationalizing the Riyadh Global Drought Resilience Partnership (RGDRP). He noted severe drought conditions faced by regions like Africa and the Middle East undermine food security and sustainable development. “Recognizing the urgency, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched the Riyadh Global Drought Resilience Partnership (RGDRP), that reflects our broader commitment, under Saudi Vision 2030, to protect people, restore land, and lay the foundation for shared, sustainable prosperity,” he stated.

Drought affects 1.84 billion people globally with nearly 5% facing extreme conditions according to Minister Aljadaan.

The IsDB Group’s Annual Meetings are crucial for global leaders to discuss inclusive development strategies while addressing shared economic challenges. They offer networking opportunities with global leaders and development experts.
