The Saudi Ministry of Finance has announced the launch of the Financial and Economic Dictionary during the Budget Forum 2026. This project is a result of cooperation between the Ministry, the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, and several government organizations such as the Ministry of Economy and Planning, Capital Market Authority, Expenditure and Project Efficiency Authority, General Authority for State Real Estate, National Debt Management Center, National Center for Government Resources Systems, National Center for Privatization, and the Financial Sector Development Program.
The new dictionary aims to standardize financial and economic terminology by providing accurate definitions in both Arabic and English. It contains more than 2,000 terms covering areas such as fiscal policy, monetary policy, investment, economic planning, financing mechanisms, and market instruments. The goal is to support financial awareness and facilitate communication among government agencies, financial professionals, academics, researchers, students, and decision-makers.
According to Deputy Minister of Finance for Communication and Media Hassan Alshaikh: “The Financial and Economic Dictionary contributes to unifying financial language and concepts and enhances communication accuracy among government entities, as well as the private and academic sectors. This, he emphasized, supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in building a developed knowledge-based economy.” He added that “this dictionary is an extension of the Kingdom’s pioneering efforts in empowering the Arabic language and harnessing linguistic and technological capabilities—including artificial intelligence technologies—to serve and advance the Arabic language.”
Professor Abdullah Al-Washmi, Secretary-General of the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language stated: “The publication of this dictionary is part of the Academy’s continuous efforts to produce specialized dictionaries, as it serves as the primary linguistic authority for the Arabic language in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” He also mentioned that over recent years “the Academy has…launched several specialized dictionaries in various fields including energy, digital government, artificial intelligence, and e-sports.” He described this latest release as “a significant step toward building accredited Arabic references that strengthen the position of the language in scientific and economic disciplines,” noting its role in boosting regional and international presence.
The dictionary is intended to serve as an educational tool supporting higher quality performance within financial institutions while contributing to improved professional communication across sectors. Those interested can access it by clicking here.
