SEC, Microsoft use summer program to teach youth computer programming

A summer training program for young adults, sponsored by Saudi
Electricity Company (SEC) and Microsoft, is teaching youth participants how to
build websites and utilize the tools of cloud computing. 

The goal of the
program is to help the children develop skills over the summer and to better
their communities.

There are 150 students in the program, which was organized
by the employees of the sponsor companies. Employees were allowed to enroll
their children and their children’s friends. The tech class started at the beginning
of the holy month of Ramadan.

The summer program was developed for boys and girls ages 10
to 17, Engineer Yahya Abdul Rahman, head of the telecommunications
and information technology sector at (SEC), said. Rahman explained the program focuses on
cloud computing and programming, creating websites, as well as learning and
utilizing programming codes for game programming. The company has chosen the Executive
Center for Developing Leaders in Riyadh to train the females in the class, and
the boys will be instructed by Microsoft Arabia company.

“The program is one of many SEC initiatives launched within
the community responsibility programs, which aims to increase the technological
and scientific knowledge among Saudi young men and women, especially in the
latest software and technology field to enable them to build better future,” Dina Karim, the CEO of the Executive Center for Developing Leaders, said.
