An elite group of Singapore officials recently traveled to
Dubai under the auspices of Cheong Foong, consul general to the Republic
of Singapore in Dubai, and welcomed by Ahmed Bin Meshar, SLC secretary general.
Dubai’s Supreme Legislation Committee (SLC) hosted the
delegation to strengthen the two nations’ mutual goals of economic and
legislative cooperation. Noting that the visit matched a previous sojourn
undertaken by an SLC entourage to Singapore, where Dubai leaders learned about
the nation’s legislative procedures, Bin Meshar described how
Dubai could benefit its visitors by sharing details of its own strategic vision — wherein
the emirate hopes to become one of the world’s most developed countries by
2021.
Informative discussions centered around encouraging human
development, creative innovation, legislative improvements and advancing
knowledge to produce a legal system in sync with Dubai’s progress.
Mutual goals for the bilateral gathering included further reinforcement
of ties between the nations. Foong complimented the concept of
building an international legislative community while at the same time freely
sharing models for best practices, an approach that can enhance international
relations.
“Dubai and Singapore have solid and strategic ties and
they share common denominators, most notably its unprecedented development,
which will pave the way to reach a new level of excellence in all fields,” Foong said. “We are confident that the Supreme Legislation Committee will provide
valuable contributions in terms of strengthening legislative and legal
cooperation between Dubai and Singapore to serve the aspirations of both sides.”
The emirate’s Supreme Legislation Committee serves as an
integrated legal system to support Dubai’s sustainable development plans.
