HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), has announced that over 943,000 individuals in Tanzania have benefited from Suqia’s water projects. These initiatives are part of a grant from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and are conducted in partnership with the Emirates Red Crescent. The goal is to provide clean drinking water to more than one million people in Tanzania by the third quarter of 2025.
The announcement was made during the second Board of Trustees meeting for 2025, which included notable attendees such as HE Fahad Abdelrahman bin Sultan, Vice Chairman of Suqia; HE Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Nasser Lootah, Waleed bin Salman, Dr Yousef Al Akraf from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). Also present was Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia UAE.
During the meeting, recognition was given to 12 winners from eight countries in the fourth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. This award is overseen by Suqia UAE and offers total prizes worth USD 1 million across four categories.
Al Tayer emphasized their commitment to global humanitarian efforts: “We follow the noble path established by the Founding Father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan… We aim to create a sustainable, positive impact on the lives of millions.”
The Board reviewed past achievements focusing on innovation in sustainable water solutions. Since its inception in 2015, Suqia UAE has helped approximately 15 million people across 37 countries through over 1,000 sustainable water projects.
