Thuraya Telecommunications Company recently elected Saleh Al Abdooli to be its new board chairman. 

The mobile satellite services company provides communication solutions for numerous sectors such as energy, maritime and the media.

“Thuraya has gone through a remarkable transformation over the last few years, and I look forward to being involved as it leads into a bright future,” Al Abdooli said. “Thuraya has a deserved reputation for its innovative products and reliable network — and for the disruptive approach it takes.”

For more than two decades, Al Abdooli has been with the Etisalat Group, where he has held a variety of roles, including CEO of Etisalat UAE, board member for Etisalat Services Holding Company, and chairman of committees designed to help create the second GSM network in Saudi Arabia and tasked with expanding Etisalat internationally. He also serves as a representative on the board of directors for Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily).

“We are delighted to welcome Eng. Al Abdooli to the board of directors as our new chairman,” Thuraya CEO Samer Halawi said. “As we are now defining our plans for the future, his considerable experience and leadership will be of great value as we move into the next phase of our development.”
