Working in tandem with the Smart Dubai Office, the Dubai Chamber
of Commerce and Industry recently reviewed hundreds of applications for its Smartpreneur
Competition and is expected to announce the winning entries Tuesday at ArabNet
Digital Summit 2016.

Dubai Chamber launched the program earlier in May to involve
Dubai’s young entrepreneur community in the country’s strategic initiatives. The
challenge offers a chance for entrepreneurs to partake in Smart Dubai’s
mission to embrace technology innovation and transform Dubai into a smart city
in alliance with Dubai’s long-range plans for sustainability.

Of 350 entries received by the deadline, 48 qualified for
the next round of assessment by a panel of judges appointed by the the chamber and Smart Dubai offices.

Prize awards will take the form of approximately $41,000 to be divided
among the top three entrants, who will also receive hands-on support in the
form of mentorship training in the Tejar Dubai entrepreneurial development
program.

“The competition … has provided a fitting platform for
innovative individuals to think out of the box and come up with fresh ideas
which are also in line with the dimensions of the objectives of the Smart Dubai
initiative and will go a long way in supporting the emirate’s transformation to
a global smart city leader,” Smart Dubai General Director Aisha Bin Bishr said.

Chamber Senior Vice President Al Zaabi, who coordinates Tejar Dubai, said participation exceeded expectations, yielding numerous innovative ideas that
will ultimately contribute to Dubai’s business environment.
