Bahrain’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted a workshop recently for representatives of private businesses and government offices to learn more about Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the most recent version of the Internet Protocol (IP).

IP is the communications protocol through which computers on all the world’s Internet traffic is networked.

“The implementation of IPv6 will contribute positively in accelerating the progress of our future plans that are aimed at expanding and extending our networks and interconnected services for the public and private sector in the kingdom of Bahrain,” Mohammed Abdulla Alnoaimi, director of technical and operations for TRA, said.

Workshop participants were trained on many facets of IPv6 use.

“The core objective of the IPV6 training is to allow the participants to recognize the importance of adopting this latest internet protocol in their networks, build technical capacities to accommodate the applications and services and ensure the transition to the latest version within the coming years,” Alnoaimi said.

TRA was assisted with organizing the workshop by staff from the RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) serving clients in Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.

RIPE director of external relations Paul Rendek said his company looked forward to building its relationship with Bahrain’s TRA.

“We are enthusiastic about empowering the local community, which comes within our strategic partnership with the TRA Bahrain,” Rendek said. “This can translate into positive gains in terms of capacity and talent building. The training course provides the kingdom’s technical people with a unique opportunity to become experts in IPv6 and support real knowledge exchange for IPv6 deployment in Bahrain and the Middle East region.”
