In the wake of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) decision
to require some low-voltage household electrical products to carry new Gulf
conformity marking, UL announced that, as a Gulf Standardization Organization
(GSO) Notified Body, it is available to conduct all necessary product
evaluations.
The GCC decision will take effect in the United Arab
Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, State
of Qatar, State of Kuwait and Republic of Yemen.
UL is a global safety science organization. Products that
will need to be tested and receive a Gulf Type Examination Certificate include refrigerators,
freezers, washers, dryers, microwave ovens, air conditioners, electric fans,
hair appliances, water heaters, plugs and cords.
UL noted that it can help companies reduce costs while
supporting a quicker time to market. Testing and evaluation can be done at one
of UL’s global testing laboratories, and UL engineers will provide all mandated
certificates needed by the Gulf Conformity Marking requirements.
