The Kingdom of Bahrain recently announced that applications are open
for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education.
This year’s competition theme is
the use of ICTs to further educational opportunities for disadvantaged groups.
Disadvantaged groups include refugees, internationally
displaced persons, socioeconomically disadvantaged learners, individuals with
disabilities, cultural, ethnic and religious minorities, and vulnerable women
and girls. Bahrain’s embassy noted that organizations or individuals seeking to
use ICTs to help these groups receive education should apply for the prize.
UNESCO’s director general will select two winners, awarding
the prize at a ceremony held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on Feb. 21, 2017. The winners will receive $25,000 each. The deadline for applying for
the award is Sept. 30.
The King Hamad Prize has recognized achievements in using
innovation to advance education since 2005.
