Ajman
University recently announced that it created a sustainable initiative to
install automated external defibrillator (AED) across its campus as part of its
strategy to help keep students safer.

The
initiative was led by Alaa Al Amiry, a lecturer from Unit of General Studies.
She developed an awareness campaign for the AED and helped organize training
classes. With this new initiative, the university will now be better trained to
deal with cardiac arrest victims, increasing the victims’ chance of survival.

“We are planning to train as many AU staff as possible
annually on Heartsaver and BLS courses by the AHA, with collaboration with Mr.
Ali AbouChleih from FAST (First Aid Training Center) company,” Al Amiry said in
a statement.

The AED
committee hosted a ceremony after its training sessions were complete. Now six
medical clinics staff are certified on how to use the AED. These staff members
received training via a course certified by the American Heart Association.

“Ajman University is the first university in UAE to adopt
these machines (Zoll Plus AED) on campus,” said Khaled Al-Banna, Business Unit
Manager of Leader Healthcare.
