Wipro Ltd., an information technology (IT) and consulting services company, has opened a new office and is expanding its workforce in Qatar over the next year.

The company – which provides consulting, application implementation and infrastructure services in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region – sees the area as a strategic growth market. Taking on new employees in Qatar is part of a push to meet the region’s increasing business requirements.

Wipro currently has more than 350 employees in Qatar working on customer projects.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new office in Doha,

Wipro’s country head for Qatar Hariprasad Sasidharan said the nation offers major opportunities.

“We are seeing demand for propositions like digital, analytics and mobility and it is encouraging to see Qatar leading the investments in some of these areas,” Sasidharan said.

Wipro serves GCC customers across various industrial sectors and has a strong base in banking, telecom, and the oil and gas verticals.

“Over the last 15 years, Wipro has seen high growth in the Middle East market,” Jack Smies, the company’s vice president and leader for the Middle East, said. “Despite the fluctuating oil prices, the IT demand across the region is holding steady and Qatar is in an enviable position due to a prolonged budget surplus in the last few years along with adequate reserves to see them through the current market situation.”
