Telecommunications operator Zain Group recently received five accolades at the Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Awards ceremony.

In the category of consumer service innovation, the company won an award for innovative customer offerings based on a disruptive technological platform. It acknowledged Zain’s partnership with UBER, in which Zain customers who use the platform can obtain discounted and preferential services.

In the same category, Zain Jordan and Zain Iraq received an award for enhancing and expanding access to mobile banking services across both countries through a deal with eServGlobal.

Zain Jordan was also honored for improving the mobile experience for deaf customers through a prepaid line, launched with the Higher Council for Affairs of Persons with Disabilities.

Zain Lebanon’s mobile operation Touch won two awards for its app that enables customers to get real-time information about their line balance, credit and bundles consumption. The app, which has more than 800,000 downloads, also has an augmented reality feature.

“The breadth and depth of the prizes we have won this year across several of our operations signifies that we are not just innovating for innovation’s sake, but that the services and initiatives we are developing are really impacting people’s lives positively,” Zain Group CEO Scott Gegenheimer said. “I would like to thank all Zain staff members for their dedication and focus, which allows us to be recognized in such a fashion.”
