Eaman Al Roudhan, head of Zain Kuwait and the first female
CEO of a Kuwaiti telecommunications firm, was recently honored with the 13th
annual Media Excellence Award for Technology and Information at a panel
discussion.
In a discussion entitled “Media: The Basics of
Communication and Integration,” Al Roudhan stressed technology’s relationship
to media and telecommunications.
“We cannot overlook the important role technology plays in
advancing communication within members of the society, as it is considered an
integral part of the media development process,” she said.
The forum was sponsored
by Prime Minister Jaber Al Sabah. Sponsored by Zain for the past five consecutive
years, the occasion has become a high-profile media event, joining religious, business,
social and education leaders, journalists, authors and entertainers from throughout
the Middle East.
Zain Kuwait’s CEO emphasized that the responsibility of telecom
operators in protecting user privacy cannot be overlooked.
“Sometimes users unintentionally allow their privacy to be breached by
downloading certain applications on their smartphones,” she said.
Al Roudhan delivered her comments alongside former Qatari telecommunications
minister Hissah Al Jaber and information technology engineer Salem Al Uthaina,
who serves as board chairman and CEO of the Public Authority for Communications.
“The nature of the media channels used in every time period
defined the society at that time,” Al Roudhan said. “The change from verbal
communication to written communication took centuries, while change into
digital and social media only took a few years, and this is a result of the super-fast
advancement of technology in recent years.”
