Zain has launched its 5G Advanced network, providing nationwide coverage across most of Kuwait. This development represents a significant advancement in the country’s digital infrastructure, aiming to support high-speed internet and foster technological innovation.
The rollout was executed following the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority’s (CITRA) announcement about activating 5G Advanced in Kuwait. This positions Kuwait among the first countries globally to commercially deploy this technology, reinforcing its status as a leader in adopting advanced telecom solutions.
Bader Nasser Al-Kharafi, Zain Vice Chairman and Group CEO, highlighted: “This milestone reflects the directives of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to foster a thriving investment environment in which the ICT sector drives economic growth and positions Kuwait as a regional hub for the digital economy.” He acknowledged government support from Minister Omar Al-Omar and CITRA’s Acting Chairman Sheikh Athbi Jaber Al-Sabah for facilitating this launch.
Al-Kharafi emphasized that this progress makes Kuwait one of the first nations globally to launch 5G Advanced commercially. He stated: “It opens vast opportunities to accelerate digital transformation, power smart services and IoT, and redefine the connectivity experience for all.”
Aligning with Zain’s 4WARD strategy focused on continuity, acceleration, collaboration, and digital innovation, Al-Kharafi added: “Through this launch we reaffirm our commitment to meeting growing data demands…and continuing our journey to evolve into a fully integrated technology company.”
Nawaf Al-Gharabally, CEO of Zain Kuwait commented on their contribution towards national digital development since 1983: “With the launch of 5G Advanced we are contributing to a new chapter in Kuwait’s digital transformation journey.” He noted that early investments in infrastructure enabled seamless coverage from day one.
Zain is offering eligible postpaid subscribers a free 30-day trial of 5G Advanced service from June 30 until July 29. The service includes ultra-low latency for applications like cloud gaming and video calls.
To commemorate this launch, Zain released a TV commercial under their “Live Your Wonderful” campaign highlighting how technology can enrich human connections. The campaign emphasizes everyday moments made meaningful through advanced connectivity.
Since its inception as Kuwait’s first mobile operator in 1983, Zain has introduced groundbreaking technologies including GSM services in 1994 and nationwide 4G LTE rollout in 2012. It became the first GCC country to launch commercial 5G services in 2019. In recognition of its performance excellence, Zain received five Speedtest Awards from Ookla in 2024.
