Dubai Customs and the Department of Economic Development in Dubai recently unveiled the Virtual Freight and Logistics Corridor, an initiative aimed at sustaining the business leadership and competitiveness of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The corridor is a virtual freight and logistic passage that connects seaports, airports and free zones in Dubai on a single platform, allowing for hassle-free customs clearance and making the process more efficient without any financial burden, Dubai Customs Director Ahmad Mahboob Musabih said.
“The pilot phase statistics of the virtual corridor point out to the uniqueness and of this initiative and the seamlessness it brings to cargo movement,” Mahboob said. “More than 12,000 transfers of cargo, weighing 64,000 tons, have been processed since September 2014. Additionally, deposit-related financial burdens have been considerably minimized by some ($32.6 million)."
The initiative supports the goals of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to pursue innovation in in public service delivery, and is expected to enhance the position of Dubai and the UAE on the global trade map
