Improving status of Arabic language may enhance UAE's identity

The General Secretariat of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior as well as the Security Media Department at the Security Support Directorate General recently highlighted the importance of using the Arabic language to unite and solidify the identity of the region.

Officials say there must be concerted efforts from a variety of social sectors to improve the standing of Arabic within UAE society. Leaders plan to further develop Arabic by using high quality media content.

The Security Media has started to focus on proofreading all of its texts, materials, publications, press releases and other journals to improve the social standing of the language. This step has already resulted in significant improvement. Now all of its workshops, lectures, training courses and internal correspondence will be held in the Arabic language.

“Since its inception, the Security Media Department has realized the importance of the Arabic language and the need to restore its pristine glory, as well as the need to maintain it as the official language for both written and verbal communication; in line with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy, which aims to promote national identity in all of its activities and programs,” Security Media Department Director Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah said.
