AMCo opens Dubai office

AMCo, a United Kingdon-based niche pharmaceutical company that serves customers worldwide, recently opened a location in Dubai.

This move will make more of AMCo's medicines available to health care providers in the Middle East. The new office will be a hub of operations as AMCo expands into North Africa. New locations also are planned in Saudi Arabia and Algeria.

AMCo distributors already serve this region, but officials from the company wanted an office there so patients would be able to obtain more of the company's products.

The Dubai office will be overseen by Werner Rooseboom, AMCo’s Middle East and North Africa general manager, who has extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry in the region.

“We have such a wide product range, from treatments for patients with thyroid problems, through to the eye disease conjunctivitis which is common in the Middle East," Steve Higgins, AMCo’s chief commercial officer, said."We are in a better position to make these available in the region if we are based there."

One of AMCo's newest offerings is Fucithalmic, a medication to treat conjunctivitis -- more commonly known as pinkeye. AMCo said 30 percent of worldwide sales of the treatment have been in the Middle East.

“We will be closer to the people we want to help, and to the doctors, nurses and pharmacists who are looking for cost-effective ways of treating patients," Higgins added. “Dubai is an excellent location with strong transport links and communications across the region. The new office was officially opened by AMCo CEO John Beighton in the presence of a number of AMCo’s long-standing regional partners.”
