Collosa, the Madrid-based civil engineering and construction firm, has broken ground on a new public transportation hub in the Qatari capital of Doha.
The public works project has a budget of more than $13 million and will serve Doha’s fleet of 780 public busses with maintenance, overhaul and refueling services. The hub is also being developed with facilities for the city’s thousands of taxis.
The project is being built near a Qatar Petroleum service station in the sector known as the New Industrial area. This is convenient as Doha’s busses operate on natural gas, which is produced in large quantities nearby.
The transport hub represents one of the first major public works projects for Collosa in Qatar. Collosa General Director José Peláez said landing the public project is a feather in the company’s cap, and it plans to add some Spanish-style flair to the design.
“Until now, we’ve worked for the private sector in Qatar, first as subcontractors of another Spanish company and afterwards, in the construction of a ‘Labor camp,’ a facility intended for foreign workers who come to this country to work,” Peláez said.
The project site covers 688,890 square feet and is expected to be completed in early summer 2016.
