Corporations partner to create sustainable future for Qatar

KAHRAMAA (Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp.) and AMLAK (the holding company the manages strategic portfolios of assets based in Qatar) have recently signed Tarsheed, the national program for conservation and energy efficiency, in order to develop a sustainable future for Qatar residents.

The purpose of the agreement is to strengthen their most common interests in preserving Qatar’s natural resources, especially water conservation and efficient use. 

"We are committed to providing the highest levels of care for the country's wealth, resources and sustainability without negatively affecting the environment, which is a main pillar of sustainability in Qatar's national agenda,” HE Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, president of KAHRAMAA, said. "KAHRAMAA, through its national Tarsheed program, has implemented strategic conservation, energy and water efficiency projects by adopting and implementing a number of initiatives on the topics of regulations, standards, laws, social awareness, and renewable energy technology, by collaborating with the concerned authorities in Qatar."

Another major concern is electricity for the tourism industry. All of these factors will benefit Qatar’s present and future generations economically and socially.

"This collaboration with AMLAK and the national Tarsheed program provides an excellent opportunity for both entities to raise the bar when it comes to efficient energy use in the tourism sector; one of our goals to achieve a 35 percent reduction in water and 20 percent in electricity use per person in Qatar," Ali M. Al Ali, KHARAMAA's manger of customer services, conservation and energy ffficiency, said. "We are following the best practice standards of all developed countries that are now adopting and implementing green tourism systems.”

AMLAK Chief Executive Officer Abdul Aziz Al Emadi expressed his delight with the signing of the memorandum of understanding. 

“As a responsible Qatari business with sustainability at the core of all our operations, this (memorandum) will enable us to further increase our role in protecting the country's environment for our children and the future generations to come," Al Emadi said. "Our colleagues will benefit from the insights provided by Tarsheed, and implement successful sustainability models throughout our organisation and its entities."
