Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts, the Swiss hospitality firm, is moving forward with plans to open a new hotel in the rapidly developing city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s second largest city and the largest port on the Red Sea.
The new hotel, to be called Mövenpick Hotel Heraa Jeddah, will be Mövenpick’s fourth property in the city with 10 more spread throughout the rest of the Gulf kingdom.
The new 300-room hotel will offer guests two signature restaurants and numerous other options for food and drink. Other amenities will include a ballroom, seven meeting rooms, a health club complete with a gym and seven stand-alone villas for guests seeking a more private residential-style stay.
The hotel's services aren’t the only things that will make it popular with travelers: its location is ideal to capitalize on Jeddah’s growth in popularity as a business and leisure destination.
“The hotel is just five minutes from Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport, which is currently undergoing a $7.2 billion expansion to take its ultimate capacity to 80 million passengers annually,” Andreas Mattmüller, Mövenpick’s chief operating officer in the Middle East and Asia, said. “We will therefore be the first point of call for travelers stopping in Jeddah en route to the two Holy Cities, Makkah and Madinah.”
Mövenpick Hotel Heraa Jeddah is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2019.
