Metso's safety valves to be used in Orpic's refinery expansion

Daelim, the South Korean engineering and construction firm tasked with expanding Orpic's Sohar oil refinery in Oman, has chosen the Neles ValvGuard intelligent solenoid valve to ensure refinery safety.

The valves are produced by Finland-based Metso, and are designed to ensure extremely reliable emergency shutdown valve operation in the refinery. Metso’s products will be used in more than 600 safety-critical points throughout Orpic’s operations.

Daelim chose the valves not just for their reliability, but also because of their ability to execute partial valve stroke tests to regularly verify performance. That’s a major advantage for the plant's predictive maintenance operations – an integral part of maintaining the required safety integrity level.

The pneumatic abilities and integrated limit switches of the Neles ValvGuard also reduce installation costs for most any plant in which they are employed. That means refineries can take advantage of improved plant safety, and manage to do it with a lower price tag at the same time.

The contract is a win for Metso, as Orpic is one of Oman's largest companies and is one of the most rapidly growing oil businesses in the Middle East. That increases the Finnish company’s market profile in a region with a booming oil industry.
