Dubai Police work with UNIDO to cut carbon emissions

Dubai's police force is going green as it partners with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in efforts to cut the organization’s carbon emissions.

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy is training 23 officers to use UNIDO’s Energy Management System (EnMS), which is designed using the latest best practice methods to improve energy performance, productivity and environmental sustainability.

UNIDO began working with the Dubai Police after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy earlier this year. The 23 police officers were selected to attend a three-day EdMS user training and awareness program.

The EnMS training also is being organized organized in conjunction with Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, an organization committed to sustainable development in Dubai.

“In nominating 23 officers for this program, we have embarked on our goal toward achieving the first ‘zero carbon police force,’” Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzaina, commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, said.

The training program includes sessions on energy efficiency and energy management, along with case studies pertinent to the police and their operations.

UNIDO is conducting EnMS training programs and offering technical assistance in developing countries and emerging economies. Organizations that have undergone UNIDO’s program have achieved an average annual energy savings of 5 to 15 percent in the first year of implementation.
