The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is outperforming other nations in terms of water and electricity efficiency levels by adopting the best internationally recognized sustainability practices and technologies.
Much of this progress is thanks to the efforts of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), which is seeing reliability and efficiency results that surpass even the private sector.
DEWA is outperforming leading European and American companies with water network losses down to nine percent, compared to 15 percent in North America.
Meanwhile, the UAE was ranked fourth in the world and number one in the MENA region for electricity reliability and availability by the World Bank’s Doing Business 2015 report.
The success of DEWA can be credited at least in part to the policies set forth by the Dubai 2021 plan. Dubai 2021 calls on the emirate to use latest environmentally sustainable and efficient technologies for production, transmission, distribution and use of energy and water.
“DEWA works … to establish Dubai’s leading regional position as a role model for the efficiency and effectiveness of water infrastructure that meets the current and future requirements of the Emirate’s development,” DEWA Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said. “This contributes to the sustainable development of Dubai.”
The goal of the plan is to provide the best government services that achieve the highest levels of satisfaction and happiness for UAE citizens.
