Spinneys, a fresh-food supermarket in the UAE, became the first in the region to join GLOBALG.A.P. as a retail member, the company said on Thursday.
The move is part of the company's strategy to support a sustainable sourcing policy aimed at benefiting its farming partners, the environment and customers. By December 2015, Spinneys intends to begin importing certified fruits and vegetables exclusively from GLOBALG.A.P.
“As the first retailer in the region to announce that all our meat is free of added hormones earlier this year, we are delighted to be recognized for our ongoing commitment to sustainability by becoming the first regional retail member of GLOBALG.A.P.," Jannie Holtzhausen, CEO of Spinneys Dubai LLC, said.
Spinneys Dubai LLC has over 50 supermarkets in the UAE and Oman, and has built a reputation for freshness and
customer service. Food safety, quality, freshness and service are the main drivers at Spinneys since the company’s founding, a philosophy inherent in the company's motto: "The fresher
experience."
