Intel launches Internet of Things innovation lab at Dubai Technology Entrepreneurship Centre

Intel and Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority have inaugurated Intel's Ignition Lab for the Innovation of Internet of Things (IoT) at the Dubai Technology Entrepreneurship Centre (DTEC).

As part of the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) technology incubation center, the lab will collaborate with local companies in promoting novel IoT developments.

IoT is built around the idea of turning any device/object into a smart one by allowing it to communicate with other devices via the cloud, and to produce data that can be used to increase value. That makes IoT one of the fastest developing areas of the high tech industry.

Mohammed Alzarooni, DSOA’s vice chairman and CEO, said the company is celebrating the Intel IoT Ignition Lab opening as a major milestone that will add significant value to the start-ups and entrepreneurs of DTEC.

“This lab will not only serve as a creativity and innovation stimulator, but will also function as a melting pot for ideas in the promising Internet of Things space and provide a launch pad to bring radical ideas to reality, regardless of the pillar they fall under," Alzarooni said.

Nassir Nauthoa, Intel’s GM in the GCC, said the global market opportunities of IoT are practically endless, and especially the UAE as there is a huge move towards implementing the Smart City concept.

The Dubai-based Ignition lab will focus on Smart Cities, Smart Homes and Smart Transportation.
