Qatari telecommunications company Ooredoo has signed a major framework agreement with Nokia to support Ooredoo's long-term development strategy in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.
Under the five-year contract, Nokia will provide advanced mobile broadband technologies and professional services to help Ooredoo Group support better 2G, 3G, 4G and LTE-A networks. That will allow Ooredoo to offer customers advanced voice and data services across the company’s markets.
The deal builds on a previous agreement between Ooredoo and the Finnish telecom giant. The terms and conditions of this agreement have been revised to include global best practices in delivery and technology for the benefit of both companies.
Ooredoo blazed new trails for network performance across all its markets. It was the first to offer 4G+ in Qatar and Kuwait and the first to offer 4G in Oman, Tunisia and the Maldives. Ooredoo is also credited with launching the first commercial 3G in Algeria and 3G services in Myanmar.
To do that, Ooredoo has pursued a number of frame agreements like the one signed with Nokia. Those agreements are some of the tools the company uses to offer new services in its markets.
"Working with Nokia, Ooredoo has designed and built a range of leading-edge networks that enable us to enrich our customers' lives,”
Ooredoo Group Chief Operations Officer Ahmed Al Derbesti said. “This renewed framework agreement is significant, as it covers the delivery of all the latest technologies and support services helping us further enhance our network capacity and coverage."
