Alstom begins production on trains for Riyadh Metro

Polish company Alstom recently began production of the first of 69 trainsets to be used by the Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia.

The contract for the work was awarded in 2013 by the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) to the FAST consortium, of which Alstom is a part. Personnel at the company's Katowice plant will design and build trainsets for lines 4, 5 and 6 of the Riyadh Metro network.

Each trainset will include two cars consisting of first, family and single classes. The 118-foot-long trainset is driverless and completely motorized. Features of each car includes ergonomic seating, air conditioning, LED lighting and an advanced information system for passengers.

A full-size mock-up of the trainset being made for the Riyadh Metropolis will soon be available for viewing, with the first three actual trainsets scheduled be delivered to ADA in 2017.
