Dubai International Financial Center wins energy efficiency award.
The Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) won the Small Energy Projects category at the 2015 Emirates Energy Awards for its energy-saving initiatives at the company’s truck tunnel. The Emirates Energy Awards honor public and private sector environmental efforts and best practices. Organizations win awards for developing sustainable energy efficiency initiatives.

DIFC won the silver level Small Energy Products award for the company’s DIFC truck tunnel energy savings plan. The tunnel serves the majority of buildings in Dubai’s financial hub with a dual-level, 1.7-kilometer corridor that serves heavy vehicles and provides access for support infrastructure servicing.

Dubai’s rising level of energy consumption prompted DIFC’s property management team to conduct a feasibility study and data analysis to look at best practices for energy-saving in the tunnel.

Arif Amiri, CEO of the DIFC Authority, said the financial hub is committed to efficient energy use and sustainable initiatives. That, he said, goes hand in hand with Dubai’s broader environmental objectives.

"DIFC is dedicated to enhancing its infrastructure and strengthening Dubai's offerings in terms of infrastructure and innovation,” Amiri said. “We hope this award draws more attention to the core issue of sustainability and strengthens DIFC's position as a benchmark in energy efficiency and modernization in Dubai and the wider region."
