The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) held a Maritime Innovation Workshop on Monday at the InterContinental Hotel Dubai to bring top stakeholders together to discuss new ways of working.
The workshop was part of UAE Innovation Week, an initiative to develop the Gulf nation’s industries and government, and drew representatives from various governmental bodies and from 35 of the world’s largest private sector maritime companies.
Workshop participants worked together to brainstorm on 30 innovative programs. The workshop also facilitated discussions with specialized working groups that aimed to deliver creative solutions to the industry's biggest challenges.
Participants were divided into working groups such as ports, docks, maritime tourism and government. DMCA President Sultan Bin Sulayem said the Maritime Innovation Workshop is an example of a productive public-private partnership. Such partnerships will make the UAE into one of the world’s most important maritime hubs by 2020, Sulayem said.
“The encouragement of innovation is embedded among our strategic priorities, arising from our belief in the importance of establishing solid foundations for ensuring a secure, sustainable and integrated maritime sector in line with the objectives of Dubai’s Maritime Vision 2030,” Sulayem said. “The Dubai Maritime Innovation Workshop was launched as an important addition to our efforts to inspire innovative ideas and increase capabilities to promote the good performance, safety, efficiency and competitiveness of the local maritime sector based on the highest innovative standards.”
