The Central Bank of Kuwait has released new commemorative coins celebrating Kuwaiti leader and Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s recognition by the United Nations (U.N.) as Humanitarian Leader of 2014.

In celebration of the anniversary, three coins will be released with the Kuwaiti leader’s likeness and an inscription memorializing the U.N. recognition in both Arabic and English. The releases will be a golden 100 dinar coin, a gold-plated 10 dinar coin and a silver 5 dinar coin.

The U.N. presented Sabah the award in recognition of his work to diminish suffering for people around the world as well as his support of humanitarian causes and conflict resolution. The U.N. also designated Kuwait as a Global Humanitarian Center.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Hashel, governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait, outlined the commemorative coin’s inscriptions.

The coins have “‘A Commemorative Issue for the Naming of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a Humanitarian Leader by the United Nations’ in Arabic around the periphery and a portrait of His Highness the Amir surrounded by decorative motifs,” Al-Hashel said. “The reverse has the same inscription in English in addition to decorative circular designs that contain the official logos of the state of Kuwait and the United Nations, and the inscription ‘Central Bank of Kuwait’ in addition to other designs.”

Al-Hashel said announcements will be made when the coins are available to the public.
