Officials from United Arab Emirates and South Korea signed a
memorandum of understanding this week to show their commitment to sharing water resources management information.
The memorandum signed by UAE Ministry of Environment and Water Undersecretary Abdel Rahim Mohammed Al Hammadi and South Korea Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Vice Minister Kim Kyung-hwan is not legally binding but is meant to express a commitment of the two parties to a common goal.
The agreement states water resource management experts in the two nations will share information and ideas about policies, laws and regulations as well as the science and technology related to water resources. They will also team up on projects concerning the management of groundwater and desalination of salt water.
Water resources experts in the UAE and South Korea will also work in tandem to develop programs through which treated water can be used in the agriculture, recreation and industry sectors.
Al Hammadi said the agreement is part of a broader plan for the UAE to build relationships with other nations to protect the nation's environment and reach sustainable development goals.
