RAK Ceramics, the Ras Al Khaimah-based ceramics manufacturer, has been a major contributor to this year’s edition of the annual Clean Up UAE week.
This is the event’s 14th year and ran through Wednesday. It brought together volunteers, companies and government agencies to remove accumulated litter and waste across the United Arab Emirates. RAK Ceramics’ effort led the way in Ras Al Khaimah.
RAK Ceramics CEO Abdallah Massaad said the opportunity to clean up the emirate falls in line with the company’s sustainability and corporate responsibility initiatives.
“Each year, the annual UAE cleanup campaign gives us a chance to lend a hand in keeping the UAE’s landscape clean and free from litter and pollution,” Massaad said. “As a socially responsible company, we are keen to support local initiatives that contribute to developing a more sustainable environment. We are delighted to be invited to take part once again and to help protect Ras Al Khaimah for our future generations.”
RAK Ceramics organized a large team of volunteers to help in cleanup efforts. Volunteers said aluminum cans and plastic bags were the top items of garbage collected. Volunteers said plastic bags pose a particular danger as they can find their way into the oceans or be mistaken as food by camels and donkeys.
