Drake & Scull to design and construct chilled water network for Dubai

Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE) recently won a $32.9 million Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the design, build and install of a chilled water distribution network in Dubai.

The underground chilled water pipe network in the mixed-use development will feature pre-insulated pipes ranging in size from 100 to 1,200 millimeters totaling a length of 19.9 miles. It is expected to be completed in 2018.

“DSE has achieved substantial progress in the regional engineering sector and boasts of a strong portfolio of major district cooling installations in prominent metropolises across the region," Drake & Scull Engineering  Managing Director Ahmad Al Naser said. "Our expertise in delivering such complex projects has been demonstrated by our pioneering work on district cooling plants in the Dubai Festival City, Jumeirah Beach Residences, and Meydan Nad Al Sheba in Dubai. The installation of the underground chilled water pipe network in the mixed-use development will prove to be a challenging project that will provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate our well-honed EPC skills.

"Some of the major district cooling projects we are currently delivering in the region include the district cooling plants in Dohaland and Lusail City in Qatar and Saraya Aqaba in Jordan. We are confident that our sound technical fundamentals combined with our experienced team of skilled professionals give us a competitive advantage as we aim to secure substantial project wins associated with the upcoming Dubai Expo 2020.”

The agreement propelled DSE to $720 million for the year to date in total project awards across the Middle East and North Africa region and Asia.
