Dubai Chamber coordinates seminar on food waste management
The French Business Council, which is working on an initiative to address the issue of food waste in businesses, teamed with the Dubai Chamber to address the issue of in the UAE. In attendance were representatives of private companies working in the UAE in industries like hotels, caterers, food companies and food banking.
“Waste management contributes greatly in enhancing a company’s productivity through resource conservation activities as this also boosts its reputation among its customers,” Belaid Rettab, the Dubai Chamber's senior director for economic research and sustainable business development, said.
The Dubai Chamber’s Center for Responsible Business formed the Sustainability Network in 2010 to promote best practices and building a good business reputation for UAE businesses.
“France is well-known for its gastronomy and our country is therefore playing a substantive role in addressing the food crisis around the world," French Business Council Executive Director Agnes Lopez–Cruz said. "As many chefs, [finance and banking] managers and industry stakeholders based in the UAE are French, it was an evidence for our F&B and Sustainability committees to join forces in order to tackle this burning subject in partnership with Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network and Farnek. We hope that this kind of event will help raising the awareness to reduce food waste from farm to fork as well as to promote innovative practices within the value chain locally.”
