Rolls-Royce introduces new configuration of 12-cylinder yacht engine

During the 2015 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, held Nov. 5-9, the new 12-cylinder of the Rolls Royce MTU Series 2000 M96L yacht engine debuted.

The 16-cylinder version of the engine, which made its debut in 2014, offers power ratings from 2,185 brake horsepower (bhp) to 2,600 bhp. The engine’s new 12-cylinder configuration offers ratings from 1,700 bhp to 1,920 bhp.

The latest MTU control and monitoring system, called Blue Vision New Generation, was also at the show for attendees to learn about. The Joystick System, an option for pleasure crafts, offers automatic intuitive maneuverability, thruster compatibility with a wide range of electronic or hydraulic original equipment manufacturer-supplied thruster units and GPS-Hold.

“The Series 2000 M96L, paired with MTU Blue Vision New Generation controls and monitoring provide an excellent package,” Andrew Boyer, MTU America's senior marine sales manager, said. “Customers will undoubtedly enjoy the overall quietness of the MTU package, whether fishing a tournament or cruising.”
