Dubai Healthcare City adds sectors for regulation, investment and education

Dubai Healthcare City officials said Sunday that the international health care hub will add three operational sectors to manage its regulatory, investment and education interests.

The Dubai Healthcare City Authority - Regulation (DHCR) will be managed by Dr. Ramadan Alblooshi, who will take on the duties of the agency's CEO. The DHCR will handle licensing of the health care organizations and employees working within Dubai Healthcare City, as well as other, non-health-care businesses operating there.

The Dubai Healthcare City Authority - Investment will be in charge of using the city's extensive health care services to continue developing its attraction as a global medical tourism destination. The agency will also look to expand the list of services the city offers. Real estate and communications executive Bader Hareb will take on CEO duties, which will be primarily focused on leveraging the city's investments to meet the city's ongoing infrastructure demands.

Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif will be the new CEO of Dubai Healthcare City Authority - Education. Sharif will lead the effort to develop the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, which is included in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Center.

"This plan was always the next step in our evolution, and with this new structure, we have achieved our objective of separating the regulatory from the operational," Dubai Healthcare City Authority Chairperson Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein said. "We have strived to achieve the founding vision of Sheikh Mohammed to establish a free zone that would be at the forefront of health care in the region. He intended for Dubai Healthcare City to serve his people and his country. I am so proud of our team that has created this practical model that will ensure the proper implementation of Sheikh Mohammed's vision."

Dubai Healthcare City is the largest healthcare free zone in the world. Free zones are economic areas where goods can be made, imported, adjusted, and exported without being accountable to customs organizations. The city includes two hospitals, 120 outpatient medical centers and laboratories, operated by more than 4,000 medical professionals.
