The first stage of the Etihad Rail Project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), was recently recognized by Construction Week magazine as Infrastructure Project of the Year.
Additionally, the project was honored in August by Engineering News-Record magazine with the publication's Global Best Project Award of Merit.
The Etihad Rail Project encompasses a 1,200-kilometer stretch of railway that will be used to move freight and passengers from across the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The project is overseen by Parsons and AECOM. Parsons has been developing roadway, bridge, rail, airport, health care, education and water projects throughout the Middle East and Africa for more than six decades. The company operates offices in UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
"This award stands as another testimonial of the project's significance to the UAE's infrastructure, and the timing almost coincides with the project being granted the official license to commence commercial operations," Gary Adams, president of Parsons Middle East and Africa, said.
