Oman is preparing for a tourism increase for the annual Muscat Festival.

The Oman Ministry of Tourism is preparing for an influx of visitors for this year's Muscat Festival.

The festival is in its 16th year and features a blend of traditional and modern entertainment, including folk-poetry, light shows, car shows, Omani fashion shows, sports competitions, fireworks and traditional village displays.

"We are confident that this year's edition of the Muscat Festival will be able to draw in more visitors to the sultanate, giving them the opportunity to explore and learn more about the beauty, heritage and culture of Oman," Salim Al Mamari, director-general of tourism promotion for the Oman Ministry of Tourism, said. "Nationals, residents and tourists will definitely enjoy the programs and activities like heritage villages, theater performances and trade exhibits. In line with this major event, the Ministry of Tourism expressed its strong support for the festival and highly recommends it to all tourists visiting the country."

Ministry of Tourism officials said they expect approximately two million people to visit the festival during its month-long run. Events will be held at several venues throughout Oman, including Al Amerat Park and Naseem Garden.

The Muscat Festival runs until Feb. 13.
